About The Project (Read This First)

As a homeschooling family, we wanted to provide our fourth grader with a memorable year of experiencing history, not just reading about it in a textbook. We're fortunate to live in Virginia, an American history icon. What is now the United States of America actually started here in Virginia, so we're surrounded by many important historical sites that have not only been preserved and restored, but they also serve as living museums.

We decided to start at the beginning and visit as many of these sites as possible in the order in which they happened. This site is the journal of our visits, so you can come along with us if you'd like. Or, maybe you'll be inspired to visit these places, too, and others like them.

If you'd like to follow Virginia's story in sequence, start with the timeline.

Our history is right here...in Virginia.
